April Class: Infant and Toddler Mary Jane Shoes

Shoes made by Good Little Things
Mary Jane Pattern sold by Sewingwithme1
So I have been wanting to learn how to make these for a long time!  I am excited to give it a whirl.  I have scoured the internet to find a free pattern and tutorial for us to use.  We will use the pattern found on the blog Tao of Craft but I think we may adapt it a little when we sew.

TUES., APRIL 12th at 7:30 pm at Briana Johnson's Home

Exterior fabric: 1/4 yard of 44" wide heavy weight home decorator or quilting weight cotton
OPTION- For walkers: 1/8 yard vinyl, leather, faux leather, or faux suede for soles - {needs to be thin enough to sew with sewing machine}
             1 piece felt for cushioned sole insert- any color to match interior of shoe

Lining: For patterned interior: 1/4 yard of 44" wide quilting weight cotton
OR if you want a solid, soft interior: 1 /4 yard lining fabric wool felt or soft cotton

Interfacing: 1/2 yard 22” wide iron on fusible interfacing
-Recommended Interfacing: 1. Pellon Fusible Thermolam Plus (Thick, soft) 2. Pellon Apparel & Craft interfacing (Thin)

2 sets of sew on snaps OR 1" of 1/2" Velcro
Fabric, buttons, felt, buckles, ribbon, etc. for adornment
2 quart sized Ziploc bags (for separating pieces) - optional
All-purpose thread

Your basic sewing supplies
Machine manual
Pinking shears (optional)
Tape measure
Straight pins
Small Binder clips (optional but very helpful if sewing a more durable sole for walkers)
Hand sewing needle
Seam ripper
Mini-iron (optional of course, but if you can splurge or use your Jo-Anns coupon to purchase you will be SO happy)
Ironing board (we need at least 1 per 2 people)

Visit Tao of Craft and print out their pattern pieces by selecting the size shoe you want to make.

Cut out the pieces.  {I believe the pieces include the seam allowance, but I emailed the blogger to make sure.  If not, add a 1/4" all around the outside of the pieces.}

You should have 16 pieces:

Top shoe pattern: 2 Interfacing, 2 Lining, 2 Fabric Print
Sole: 2 Interfacing, 2 Lining, 2 Print Fabric, (2 felt- optional for sole insert for walkers)
Strap: 2 Interfacing, 2 Print Fabric

I have a major shoe crush on Joyfolie shoes.  I have watched her company start on Etsy and grow, grow.  She will be converting to manufactured shoes on April 18th!  Her shoes are beautiful and works of art.  Visit her website and her blog for inspiration for your fabric choice and adornment selection.

Please let me know you are coming.  Would love to have you, just email, comment, FB, call, etc to let me know.
See you on Tuesday!

I am obsessed! Please make some of these for me! I can make felt flowers to go on them but I don't have the skill to sew them! And the peep toes, ridiculous! I might have to drive out just to have you help/make some for me!

Okay. I'm hooked. I'll be there. Nevaeh won't be able to wear these but I can always make them for baby gifts since I am obsessed with shoes and can never find ones I want to go with the outfit I pick out.
